Curated by: Deniz Beşer & Deniz Güvensoy

2-16 December, 2017

Kunst Kebab, an international art exhibition, on the relation of food and art took place in a Kebab Restaurant in the U2 Underground Passage in the Museum Quartier, Vienna. The restaurant, which is run by a Turkish immigrant, was a site for artistic interventions and it included artworks of different media such as digital printing, photography, installation, painting, video and performance. The exhibition hosted 13 artists from different backgrounds and it is curated by Deniz Beser and Deniz Güvensoy.

Artists: Zarko Aleksic, Fatih Aydogdu, ONA B., Boris Beja, Deniz Beser, Elisa Jule Braun, Deniz Güvensoy, Jelena Micic, Khaled Ramadan, Kamen Stoyanov, Katharina Swoboda, Serra Tansel, Joshua James Zielinski

The main focus of the project is to discover the role of food, eating and tasting in contemporary art. Another important focus is to investigate the ways to transform the meaning and function of social spaces using art practices. Turning a Kebab restaurant into an art venue is both a challenge and a new opportunity to create new encounters in a new context.

Kunst Kebab exhibition continued with a performance of Kamen Stoyanov and an after party.

On 16th December 2017, artist Kamen Stoyanov made a special performance for Kunst Kebab”s finissage. In the performance which is titled as PPP (Performing Pizza Painting), Stoyanov offers the clients pizzas named after significant art pieces, e.g. “Shoot” by Chris Burden or “I am to sad to tell you” by Bas Jan Ader instead of common pizzas like a Margarita or Diavolo. He interprets these artworks in a performative way and a new pizza – art piece is born.

After the performance, there was a party which will had musics from 70’s Turkish psychedelic rock, 90’s disco and some rare funky records.
