Columbus, who set foot in South America, was touched by the abundance he encountered and in one of his letters he referred to South America as “a complete Cockaigne”. Although he complains about the lack of wine and the non-Christian customs of the locals, this medieval land of abundance thinks its fantasies come true. When we look at today’s migration movements, it is seen that these movements are made towards an imaginary country of abundance. Dreams of the land of abundance still lie in the collective consciousness of almost all people as a paradise on earth.
